Spectral Profile
The Spectral Profile plots the spectrum of all bands for the selected pixel. You can extract spectra from any multispectral dataset (e.g. Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, RapidEye-2, etc.). Most space-born multispectral imagers carry a limited number of discrete spectral bands. Although it can have many bands covering the visible to thermal spectrum, such as Sentinel-2 with 12 spectral bands, it cannot produce a continuous spectrum of an object like a hyperspectral sensor can. The spectral resolution required for a specific sensor depends on the spectral characteristics of the material you are trying to identify. Each material exhibits a unique spectral signature across the electromagnetic spectrum. Factors that influence a material's spectrum include composition, structure (crystallinity), grain size, biochemical compostion, viewing geometry, and mixture. The high spectral resolution from an imaging spectrometer allows you to identify materials, whereas broadband sensors such as Senintel-2 only allow you to discriminate between materials.
In the following section you learn how to create a Spectral Profile:
Open Layer
- Click Explor Tab
- Click on Layer Button
Select Layer
- Select one (or more) spectral bands from the available data layers
Show Spectral Profile
- Choose the location-icon from the control panel
- Click on a location in the image
- After this a popup-window appears and then click on "Spectral Profile"
- You will see a graphic depicting spectra from any multispectral dataset (e.g. Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, RapidEye-2, etc.)
